The closing ceremony of the first FIFA course to be held in Solomon Islands since 2012 was witnessed by FIFA Development Officer for Oceania Glenn Turner, Solomon Islands Football Federation Normalising Committee chairman Barnabas Anga and SIFF CEO Neil Poloso.
The course had opened on Tuesday with 26 participants travelling from around Honiara and from further afield in Malaita and Guadalcanal to take part.
After five days of learning and sharing experiences, the course came to a conclusion with participants voicing their ideas about how they can contribute to the development of youth players in a mini seminar.
FIFA Instructor and OFC Head of Education Didier Chambaron led hte course with support from SIFF’s local technical officers.
An enthusiastic Chambaron was full of praise for the participants and thanked them heartily for their hard work, interest and willingness throughout the duration of the course.
“It was a really happy week for me because I witnessed a lot of effort and passion from you. I look forward to seeing you again and working with you in the future,” Chambaron said.
Anga, who helped present participants with their certificates, was full of praise for FIFA and OFC.
“I want to thank FIFA for their foresight and vision. The successful hosting of this course pays tribute to the foresight that FIFA and OFC have in the potential of this country in football,” Anga said.
“They can see that forthcoming is a bright future for football and this course is an investment towards that future.”
Anga also challenged the participants to take the responsibility for football development seriously, indicating that a lot of hard work lies ahead of them.
“This course is only a starting point for you as you only become a coach when you actually go out and practice what you have learned this week. You will be the ones that actually work with our players to shape their careers and futures.”
At the same time, Anga told them that SIFF will continue to uphold its responsibility to delivering an environment where their technical knowledge can be used, in collaboration with FIFA and OFC through competitions and education programmes.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Eddie Omokirio thanked Chambaron for his hard work and dedication during the course.
“We have gathered a great amount of knowledge from this course and we want to thank you for that. From the simple to the difficult you have led us to better understand our roles as coaches,” Omokirio said.
The FIFA Member Association Youth Coaching Course was held in Honiara from 24-28 June.
