In typical Brown style, becoming the club’s first centurion will be the last thing on his mind when he lines up on the weekend, securing another win to keep the Phoenix in touch with the top three teams will instead be the main focus.
“It is an important game for us,” Brown says.
“We have to get the three points. That we have a poor away record has been well documented so home points are like gold. But I think we are playing better on the road this season than in the past.”
The Phoenix have been in hot form, having won four of their last six games, and have been dominant at home, scoring a total of nine goals in their last two fixtures in Wellington.
In a further boost, Ricki Herbert’s men are coming off a 4-2 win over Sydney FC on Wednesday.
“The win over Sydney was a good result,” Brown says.
“There were a lot of tired legs out there after the busy schedule we’ve had and it was to our credit that we ground out a result. Now we have to go and do it again.”
The task in front of the Glory is difficult. They currently sit second from bottom in the ten-team league, two points above Gold Coast United. They face one of longest away trips in world club football and have never won in Wellington.
Adding to the size of the challenge is the injury cloud hanging over Glory’s All Whites striker Shane Smeltz, who is in doubt with a groin problem. The sharp-shooter has missed the last two matches but could be a chance to play.
