The New Zealand international has become a regular at the heart of Hammers defence in the past two seasons and has added leadership to his formidable playing style, stepping up to captain both club and country in the past six months.
“I’ve really enjoyed being here,” Reid says of his time with the Hammers to date. “It’s a good club and we’ve done really well over the last couple of years. Now I’m looking forward to the next two years.
“I think I have played some good football over the last two years but that goes for the whole team as well. Hopefully we can continue that. Of course now we plan to build on the last two season.”
Reid arrived in east London from Danish Superliga club FC Midtjylland in the summer of 2010, having scored and defended with class for the All Whites at that year’s FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa.
Still only 24, the Auckland-born defender struggled in his opening season at the Boleyn Ground as West Ham suffered relegation from the Premier League. Last season however, Reid thundered back to form as the Hammers won promotion from the Championship at the first attempt, scoring an unforgettable winner against Millwall in February 2012.
This season Reid has missed just two league games through injury, and has gone on to forge solid partnerships with both James Collins and James Tomkins.
Now his future has been secured, Reid is looking forward to the prospect of the Club’s impending move to the 54,000 capacity Olympic Stadium.
