Ufarte made the trip to the island of Tanna last week to work with 25 local coaches at Lamenu Football Field, and visit the famous Yasur volcano.
The visit was his first trip outside of Efate, and the former Spain striker was delighted to see how football is developing in other parts of Vanuatu.
“It was a trip that I will remember for a long time when I think of Vanuatu, not just because of the famous Yasur Volcano, but when considering the memorable opportunity I had to speak to local coaches using a broken blackboard beside a truck at Lamenu Football Field,” Ufarte said.
“This is something you never come across in Europe and for me it was fun and interesting. I was fortunate enough to meet with the 25 coaches for three hours and teach them basic football coaching.
“I believe they have learned something from me,” he said.
Ufarte said one of the most important, and basic, aspects of coaching is bringing out the best of those you have responsibility for as well as helping them achieve to the best of their abilities.
“As long as there are young football players, there will always be coaches. And coaches have to learn from someone like us to develop football in their islands.
“Football in Vanuatu is growing and I believe if all the coaches can work together and believe in themselves, they can achieve success in football in the years to come,” Ufarte said.
Ufarte is based in Port Vila where he provides support to the VFF technical department with the Development Centres, Centres of Excellence and Teouma Academy Football Academy.
