The Auckland City quartet took time out from their eight-match ASB Premiership unbeaten run to mix, mingle and guest coach the children at Drury United Football Club.
SAFCA Director of Coaching Matt Jorgensen was delighted with the visit.
“The presence of the Auckland City players was absolutely inspirational for the kids and something they will never forget,” he says.
The training camp provided a chance for the youngsters to learn skills from players who have performed at the very top level of their sport.
“The players shared some of their experiences as young footballers coming through the grades,” Jorgensen says.
“Most importantly, they provided the belief that with hard work and dedication they can also become professional players and go on to represent New Zealand.”
The players taking part certainly have the credentials to hand out some valuable advice.
OFC Player of the Year Ivan Vicelich plied his trade for seven years in the Dutch League with Roda JC and FC Waalwijk while All White team-mate David Mulligan has played for English club Barnsley and Wellington Phoenix.
Ex-Team Wellington striker Luis Corrales finished as top goalscorer in the ASB Premiership two seasons ago and is now starting to show his prowess for Auckland. Manel Exposito was signed during the recent January transfer window and counts Spanish giants Barcelona as one of his former clubs.
Jorgensen was delighted with the impact the four Auckland players made during a memorable afternoon.
“It was a great privilege to have the players along and many thanks to Auckland City for making this happen,” he says.
Auckland City have won four ASB Premiership titles, two Oceania continental titles and represented their region at two FIFA Club World Cups, including a fifth-place finish at the world’s premier club event in 2009.
The club’s commitment to youth development is highlighted by two National Youth League title victories, in 2007 and 2009.
