The 22-year-old will form part of a Kiwi triumvirate at the club as fellow All White Jack Gleeson is also on the roster and former All White Gavin Wilkinson is the general manager/interim head coach.
Wilkinson announced Hogg’s signing this week and is pleased to have captured the signature of a promising player with big aspirations.
“Ian is a young, talented left back with good athleticism and a desire to suceed,” Wilkinson says.
“We have signed him for the remainder of the season and look forward to closely evaluating him as we move to next season.”
Hogg has made no secret of his aim to break into the professional game and will be delighted to have finally achieved that goal after a couple of false starts.
He impressed during an extended trial period with Swedish second division outfit Umea earlier this year but was not offered a contract and had previously tried his luck in England’s lower leagues with Hereford United.
The former Auckland City star’s switch to America is the latest in a recent run of personal milestones for Hogg, who won his first caps for the All Whites in May before going on to feature in New Zealand’s disappointing campaign at the OFC Nations Cup the next month.
He scored in a 2-2 draw against El Salvador on his international debut and was a key member of the Oly Whites side at the 2012 London Olympic Games, taking part in all three matches as New Zealand exited at the group stage.
Hogg is reknowned for his athleticism and tenacity in the tackle and hails for a footballing family. Siblings Stuart and Michelle both play at club level domestically while father Jimmy is also a former player and mother Julie starred for the New Zealand women’s team.
Hogg finally realises professional dream
