Fiji FA postpones CVC finale
The Fiji Football Association has postponed Saturday’s return leg of the Champion versus Champion series between title holders Ba and challengers Suva.
The decision was made after officials of Ba Football Association requested the parent body for deferment because most of its key players were injured in the recent Oceania-League outing against AS Temanava in Tahiti.
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Bob Kumar said the eagerly anticipated clash would be rescheduled for a later date.
“We will be consulting both districts before finalising new dates for the game.”
“At the moment it looks likely to be played in mid March because of Ba’s O-League commitments,” He said.
Ba will host return leg matches of the O-League against Marist FC on March 12 and AS Temanava on the 19.
“The Fiji FA Board of Control before making the decision took into consideration Ba’s plea and consultations were also done with Suva team officials.”
Kumar said he was surprised with recent comments made by Suva president Jahir Khan who told a local newspaper that the association was not happy with the postponement.
“He was consulted and as a sportsman he agreed to the postponement after I discussed details of the situation with him,” He said.
Suva held Ba to a 1-1 draw at the Post Fiji Stadium in the first leg of the CVC series.
Ba has been winning the Pillay Garments sponsored champion versus champion series title since 1994.
