The semi-finals will be held on Thursday 6 August, with Group A winners Ba taking on Nadi while top of Group B Suva will take on Rewa.
An impressive 36 goals were scored over the three days of pool play with 21 of those coming on the final day and shared between the semi-finalists.
Ba captain Alvin Singh was impressed by his side’s run to the semi-finals and believes Ba is on-track to secure their 17th BOG title.
“We played well int he tournament and the boys are doing well to acheive their goals. Whenever we play Nadi they give us a tough game but we will be prepared for the semi-final and we will go in to win the game and qualify for the final,” he says.
Opposing semi-finalists Nadi will be bringing in a few reinforcements for the semi-finals according to coach Kamal Swamy.
“We will make some changes and we need to rectify problems we had in the midfield. Player that missed the tournament in Nausori due to commitments will be joining us for the semi-final and we will now have a better prepared side,” Swamy says.
Suva President Mahendra Prasad had only praise for his side’s journey to the semi-finals and expressed his delight at the number of spectators who turned out.
“The tournament went according to plan and the standard has really improved. We can say that overall more goals have been scored in the three days which means spectators have also enjoyed it,” Prasad says.
As for the team composition on semi-finals day, Prasad is confident the best team will be fielded and well prepared.
“We will have Kolinio Sivoki back in the team as he has been given the green light to play after he suffered an injury in the pool games.”
The final side looking to secure a spot in the final is Rewa and coach Marika Rodu is pretty impressed with what he has seen on the field from his players so far.
“So far so good for us. Everything went according to plan and we are doing well in terms of achieving our goal.
“There are no injuries and there will be no major changes in the team for the semi-final. We are preparing well, reviewing our games and working on our mistakes.”
