The VFF technical department is keen to see young keepers, and some with a little more experience, benefit from the talented coaching duo.
“The programme of training new goalkeepers has been running for one month now and it has been going well,” Jimmy says.
“In the beginning we had only three players but today we have over ten which is very good to see.
Former Hi-Lands FC goalkeeper Johna Iak is now the number one keeper at Shepherds United and says he is delighted to have been involved in the training programme since day one.
“I came from Tanna and I was the keeper for Hi-Lands since I was 14 years old and there was nothing for goalkeepers in the islands,” the now 19-year-old says.
“Today I am so excited that I have learned something new to develop my goalkeeping skills. My dream is to play well with Shepherds United and maybe if I do I can be the national goalkeeper one day.”
August says the sessions are held three-times a week from 8-9.30am and they are open to accepting more goalkeepers into their growing group.
“There isn’t an age limit, we start from and go up until, we split the players between coaches and work with them so they get the best goalkeeper coaching skills,” August says.
