New Caledonia

JS Baco have made an impressive start to their title defence of the New Caledonia Super League beating ACB Poya 4-0 at the Stade Nouma Daly last
week. JS Baco – who won the Super League title last season off AS Mont Dore – failed in its bid to claim an OFC O-League place after losing out to Vanuatu club champions Tafea FC in the OFC
O-League Preliminary Tournament in May.

AS Mont Dore celebrated the return of Jose Hmae with a 3-1 win over defending New Caledonia Cup holders and newly promoted AS Lossi.

Hmae – who helped inspire New Caledonia to a XIII South Pacific Games gold medal in Apia, Samoa, last month – is expected to play a vital role in
helping lift AS Mont Dore’s championship hopes following a season of heartbreak that saw the Mont Dore club lose its Super League title and suffer a humiliating 0-3 loss to AS Lossi in the New
Caledonia Cup Final, the 50th edition of the tournament.

AS Lossi were unable to repeat the miracle victory of last season with Pierre Wajoka (pictured) unable to turn the club’s fortunes around on this
occasion.

In other Super League action, AS Temala won a seven goal thriller over AS Thio Sport, 4-3, to sit in fourth place in the eight team competition,
whilst traditional New Caledonia and Oceania club powerhouse AS Magenta scraped a narrow 2-1 victory over FC Gaitcha.

In New Caledonia, four points are awarded for a win, two points for a draw, and one point for a loss.
