The tournament is part of Papua New Guinea’s preparations to host the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in November.
This will be the first visit to PNG by a football team from either the United States or Japan.
PNG U-20 women’s coach Lisa Cole says her side is excited about the upcoming games which will provide valuable information on what to expect later in the year.
“Playing against teams like Japan and USA will help us prepare because right now it’s hard to know what we don’t know.”
Cole says PNG has only had a few months of preparations so far this year, but they will ramp up the intensity ahead of the warm-up tournament.
“Our upcoming training will look at how we play, what our systems will look like so I’m looking forward to the training with the girls.”
The tri-nations series will be held at the Sir John Guise Stadium at the end of May and it will coincide with the OFC Nation’s Cup.
PNG will play Japan on 24 May then Japan will face the United States three days later.
The match between PNG and USA is scheduled for 30 May.
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be held from 13 November to 3 December in Port Moresby.
A total of 16 teams will be participating with Papua New Guinea drawn in Group A alongside Brazil, Sweden and Korea DPR.
