The Toa Aito will face Nigeria in their opening FIFA Confederations Cup match in Brazil on 17 June and in order for them to arrive in the best condition possible, the Federation Tahitienne de Football (FTF) has put in place an intensive preparation schedule.
Thirty-one players will be devoting themselves to football full time for the two-and-a-half months leading up to the tournament with two trainings per day at FTF headquarters from 1 April.
The objective is to organise the side both physically and tactically for what awaits them in Brazil, but the preparations won’t end on home soil.
On 27 May the Toa Aito will fly out to Santiago, Chile, where they will take advantage of the training centres of two professional club sides – current national league leaders Deportivo Universidad Catolica and Universidad de Chile which plays in the Copa Libertadores.
Four matches are planned during the visit, including two official matches on 1 and 4 June.
The build-up will continue with the Toa Aito’s next stop landing them in Belo Horizonte, Brazil from 6 June where they will join up with America Mineiro, a second division Brazilian club that the FTF has signed a partnership with.
While there the team will play two matches, one official, before they take on Nigeria.
The Confederations Cup is a competition played every four years, and since 2003 the country that will host the FIFA World Cup has also staged this event in the preceding year.
The champions from the six FIFA confederations, the current world champions and the host country make up the participants.
In the 2013 edition, which runs from 15-30 June, Tahiti has been drawn in Pool B with Spain, Uruguay and Nigeria for company.
