The likes of top district reps Kamal Hassan (Lautoka), Uraia Loki (Nadi), Aisea Codro (Ba), Josaia Ratu (Tavua) and Samuela Drudru (Nadroga) are all part of the trials and are looking to confirm their places in the final squad for the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Futsal Championships, to be held in Fiji from August 9 to 14.
The make-up of the Fiji squad is expected to be confirmed in July.
Fiji Football Association (FFA) Futsal Commission secretary Jainendra Sukhu says the plan is to put in the hard yards now before the final team is selected.
“This is the second Futsal camp of the year and we are pleased with what we have seen so far. The 20 players currently in camp have been very keen and have showed the determination to don the Fiji jumper at the OFC champs,” he says.
“Last weekend we had the Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament. A few players are still injured and others called us to excuse themselves from these trials. We expect the full squad to be in during the next camp.”
Last year the national side lost to the Solomon Islands in the final.
Sukhu says their aim is to go one better this time around.
“We have learned our mistakes from last year and now we cannot afford to repeat them. Fiji FA has fully backed the Futsal Commission and we will try our best to top the Oceania region.”
