Following their loss to fellow Fiji 2015 bound club Western United a few days earlier Hekari were keen to get their preparations back on a winning track against the Solomon Islands side preparing for the 2015 Pacific Games.
However Solympics had no intention of giving the visitors an easy pass.
The home side took the lead mid-way through the first half when Tigi Molea escaped the off-side trap and eased past Hekari’s keeper for the opening goal.
Hekari had the better of the play with some great chances up front but Kema Jack, who has made 27 appearances in the OFC Champions League, couldn’t get past Solympics gloveman Philip Mango.
It fell to captain David Muta to tie the match with a superb curling free kick beating Mango.
Hekari extended their lead in the opening stages of the second half when Solomon Islands international Dennis Ifunaoa finished off a well-worked play.
But Solympics weren’t done yet and despite trailing by a goal increased the pace as they went in search of the equaliser, with that hard work paying off when substitute Joel Panga found the back of the net off a close range effort.
He’d only been on the park for five minutes when he found himself unmarked in the box and able to rifle home a right-footed effort to pull his side level with Hekari at 2-2.
Solympics will continue preparing for the 2015 Pacific Games, which is set to double as an Olympic qualifer, being held in Port Moresby from 4-18 July.
Hekari United meanwhile will open their 2015 OFC Champions League campaign against Vanuatu club champions Tafea FC on 12 April at ANZ Stadium in Suva.
