The two day tournament marked the first futsal event of the 2013 season in Fiji and saw ten teams from Nasinu and Suva take part.
Dhanji Boys captain Ravinesh Kumar said hard work and commitment from his team were a huge contributor to the side’s success.
“In the final we tried to play our game plan which we have worked out. The only back fall was when our keeper went out but in the end we achieved success with our plan,” Kumar said.
“We want to try and defend our title in the future and try and earn selection in the Fiji national team.”
Fiji Football Association futsal commission chairman Yogeshwar Singh says the Southern Zonal Futsal tournament was an excellent event with a good level of futsal on display.
“We expect to see futsal continue to grow in Fiji. We will be organising a tournament in Labasa at the end of April,” Singh said.
“After that we are going to start a southern division league and we will be using our Vatuwaqa court so that we can have matches on a weekly basis with teams coming from Rewa to Navua,” Singh said.
