Herdman vacated the role, and his job as Football Ferns head coach, in September to take up the position of head coach of the Canada national women’s team.
Tony Readings replaced Herdman as New Zealand women’s coach.
New Zealand Football chief executive Grant McKavanagh says Priestman, currently Head of Women’s Development, was the ideal person to step in while the organisation decided on the best structure to move forward.
“In addition to her main role, Bev has been very heavily involved in the creation of the Junior Player Framework and knows the wider Whole of Football Plan inside out,” he says.
“Junior football is the focus for the first two years of the Whole of Football roll-out, so it makes sense for her to step up and make sure the great work that’s been happening around our federations can continue seamlessly.”
