Riley was drafted 10th overall by FC Gold Pride in January and has been a constant presence at fullback as the Santa Clara outfit roared to the Regular Season Championship in their sophomore season.
Riley is up against Boston Breakers pair Lauren Chaney and Jordan Angeli and Sky Blue’s Brittany Taylor for the award which is decided by a combination of fan (33%), player/coach (33%) and media (33%) voting.
Lauren Chaney is a regular in the USA women’s national team while Angeli and Taylor are both USA U-20 representatives.
Riley, the reigning New Zealand and OFC Women’s Player of the Year, will suit up for the Pride in the September 26 WPS Championship final, before flying out to Auckland to help the Football Ferns push for a place in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011 via the eight-nation OFC Nations Cup beginning on September 29 at North Harbour Stadium.
