Tafea FC have reclaimed their place as Vanuatu’s top club side by winning the Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) Bred Cup last weekend and securing a spot in the 2010 O-League.
It will be a welcome return to Oceania Football Confederation’s premier club competition for Tafea who participated in the 2008 O-League but were edged out by the Port Vila Sharks for a place in the 2009 competition.
Representing the Southern Region Clubs at the VFF Bred Cup, Tafea qualified for the 2010 O-League by beating Luganville’s Vaum United 4-1 at Port Vila’s Municipal Stadium.
Tafea’s national representatives Francisco Sakama, Jean Nako and defender Jeffrey Gete claimed the four goals and sent the Vaums back North with only one goal for pride.
Despite the one-sided score line, Tafea coach Graham Dimas was not fully satisfied with the overall performance of his side.
“The boys played their hearts out but were not fully physically fit during the game,” Dimas said.
“We will need to tighten up for the O-League.”
Dimas added that Tafea will head into the 2010 O-League with more experience and desire to achieve their best ever result.
