Amicale will be the happier of the sides after playing much of the match with only ten men, Solomon Islands international Joses Nawo receiving a straight red card from Fijian referee Rakesh Varman in the 35th minute.
Hekari though could not make best use of their numerical advantage and failed to find the goal that would have given them their first win of the campaign.
Amicale president Jean Yves Chabod was satisfied with the result and was pleased with the determination the players showed to eke out a draw while a man down.
He felt the Reds might even have pinched a win if they had been more ruthless in front of goal.
“We just ran out of legs in the second half but we still had a few chances to score,” he said.
“But I can’t be critical of the players because the running they did today was just great. That had a bearing on the result, no doubt about that.”
Each side in Group A has now played two matches and the results of the second round mean Fijian club Ba lead the table with Amicale, who are both undefeated after posting a win and a draw respectively.
The leaders are also tied on goal difference with a positive differential of two.
Today’s scoreless stalemate is Hekari’s first point of the campaign and the Port Moresby-based side is locked with Solomon Warriors on one point after both lost their opening games last weekend. Warriors fought out a 2-2 draw at home to Ba on Wednesday in the second round’s other Group A game to get off the mark.
The next round of Group A action will take place on Saturday 13 April and sees Amicale host Solomon Warriors at Port Vila Stadium while Hekari travel to Govind Park to face Ba.
There is one match remaining in the second round and that clash takes place tomorrow with Auckland City looking to follow up their opening day win by posting another positive result away at Waitakere United in Group B.
Waitakere will be desperate to take some points off their fierce crosstown rivals after being held to a scoreless draw at home by Tahitian team Dragon on the opening day.
The Waitakere-Auckland match kicks off at 3pm local time on Sunday at Fred Taylor Park in Auckland.
The round’s other Group B game took place on Friday night, Dragon beating Mont-Dore 4-1 away in the francophone derby.
Next weekend’s Group B action features Dragon welcoming Waitakere on Friday 12 April and Auckland having their first home match against Mont-Dore on Saturday 13 April.
