In early March Keat visited Falkenberg and played with the U-21 side in their 6-0 victory over Angelholm where the midfielder accounted for two of the goals. Two weeks later he signed a one-year contract with the club.
The 25-year-old, who recently appeared with the All Whites in their final Stage 3 World Cup qualifying match against Solomon Islands, has already begun training with the second-tier side.
Keat says he didn’t know a lot about the club, but his first impression of the coach and players was good.
“The team is not content to just get by in the league, the guys want to do well. I like that,” he says.
“I believe and hope that I can help the team to a good season.”
Keat says one of his best friends, Craig Henderson, is also based in Sweden playing for Mjallby and Henderson’s enjoyment of Swedish life gives him confidence that he too will enjoy the lifestyle.
“I’ve been told that Swedish football is good, that Sweden is a good country to live in and the people are nice, and I’ve noticed that myself. I am not a person who has high expectations when I move somewhere,” Keat says.
“I want to experience different cultures. I am happy to be in Falkenberg and I look forward to playing football here. I always want to do a good job for the team I play for.”
