The result was a crucial one in the fight for a final berth as Frankfurt now have two precious away goals to take into the home leg, set to take place in Germany this Saturday.
Percival played the full 90 minutes at right back for the victors as a dramatic finish saw Frankfurt gain the advantage at Meadow Park.
Striker Ana Maria Crnogorcevic opened the scoring for the German Bundesliga outfit just past the hour mark only for Ciara Grant to equalise a few minutes later.
It appeared as if the scores would remain that way as the final whistle drew near but Kerstin Garefrekes struck deep into injury time to give Frankfurt’s hopes of reaching the final a major boost.
“It’s the first time we have won away in Europe this season,” Crnogorcevic said. “But as far as we’re concerned the second game starts at 0-0. It’s a new game and we have to win again, which will be hard.”
Percival was not the only female New Zealand international in action in Europe over the weekend.
A pair of Football Ferns clashed in the Frauen Bundesliga as Rebecca Smith’s Wolfsburg defeated Anna Green’s Lokomotiv Leipzig 9-2 while Bad Neuenhar duo Sarah Gregorius and Katie Hoyle were left on the bench as their side posted a scoreless draw against Bayern Munich.
In Sweden, Ali Riley also had to make do with a view from the subs bench as LdB Malmö continued their good start to the Damallsvenskan with a 5-2 win over Kristianstad. But the news was better for Kirsty Yallop who played a full part as Vittsjö beat AIK 3-1 at home to register their first points of the season.
