Jackman, capped 50 times at senior level for the Football Ferns in an international career spanning 17 years, moves into the role after the departure of fellow former international player Emma Humphries.
New Zealand Football CEO Andy Martin said Jackman’s appointment comes at key moment in the growth of the female game.
“We’re delighted to welcome Maia at what is an extremely exciting time for women’s football, both in New Zealand and globally,” Martin said.
“We are very keen to build on the great work done to date and ensure that we continue to attract more and more women into the game.
“Maia’s main focus will be to drive the momentum we already have at grassroots level by leading the growth and engagement of our programmes with Federations, clubs and local communities.”
Coach of the Football Ferns, Tony Readings, hailed Jackman’s appointment and said her international playing experience will be a key resource.
“On the pitch Maia was an exemplary servant of the game and even under the intense pressure of football at the highest level, she showed outstanding leadership qualities which served our team superbly,” Readings said.
“Those skills and attributes are not only rare, but also transferrable to life off the pitch and it’s fantastic for the continued development of our women’s programme that Maia will now be able to put those unique talents to work.”
Jackman joins from her previous role as Education Manager for Drug Free Sport NZ and will begin her new role on April 28.
