The Tiki Store, the official merchandiser for Tahiti 2013, opened its doors this week with all officially licenced World Cup products and memorabilia including hats, t-shirts and all national team shirts for starters.
From next week, the store will also be the only official location to buy tickets to the World Cup.
The traditional ribbon cutting for the event was performed by LOC president Vairani Davio, with mayor of Papeete Michel Buillard and former international footballer Pascal Vahirua in attendance. Also present, along 150 other important members of the community, were Jonathan Tehau and Steevy Chong Hue, two essential members of Tahiti’s 2013 Confederations Cup squad.
Chong Hue says that the Beach Soccer World Cup will be a huge moment for Tahiti.
“This is a great time for Tahitian football and this FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup is great not only for Papeete, but also for the island of Tahiti and for all of French Polynesia.”
He says the event will help boost the local economy and believes the Tiki Store will go a long way towards that as well.
