Seven teams advance to the play-offs with the No. 1 team, Samoana Sharks, sitting out the first round while the eighth team in the competition, the South Pacific Academy Dolphins, do not make it into the post-season.
In the first fround of the play-offs, on Saturday, February 15, it will be No. 2 Fa’asao-Marist Cougars taking on No. 7 Tafuna Warriors; No. 3 Nu’uuli Voc-Tech Wildcats against No. 7 Leone Lions and No. 4 Faga’itua Vikings versus No. 6 Kanana Fou Stallions.
Samoana awaits the three winning teams from the first round for the second round of the play-offs scheduled for February 22. The championship game will be played on February 27.
The Cougars were on their way to the No. 1 seed by a differential in goals over Samoana until a shocking, first time defeat of the seaosn, against the Wildcats on February 12. They lost 201 and that helped the Sharks lock up the No. 1 seed.
That win also helped Nu’uuli Voc-Tech move into and secure the No. 3 spot despite losing against the Stallions on February 13.
South Pacific Academy just missed out on the No. 7 spot with a season ending 2-2 draw against the Vikings. they are tied with Tafuna with three points a-piece but the Warriors have the goals differential tie-breaker in their pocket. Had they beaten Faga’itua the Dolphins would have been in the play-offs instead.
Samoana is the defending champions of the varsity division, having won the title for the last three years.
