Solomon Warriors and table-toppers Western United both secured victories while KOSSA stumbled to a defeat at the boots of Real Kakamora.
Defending champions Solomon Warriors took to the pitch against table dwellers X-Beam, and were more than clear about their intentions as they raced to a 4-1 victory. Gibson Daudau opened the scoring in the 20th minute and by half-time they were 3-0 up after Jerry Donga added two more.
X-Beam rallied in the second half and a gutsy run by Danny Maeli saw them draw one back 11 minutes after the break. That goal would prove their one and only however as Solomon Warriors regained control and kept their opponent at bay before Dennis Ifunaoa scored a fourth late in proceedings.
The only cloud for the Solomon Warriors after a comprehensive victory was the expulsion of striker Jerry Donga who will miss their next match.
KOSSA needed only two minutes to get on the score sheet against Real Kakamora, but unfortunately for the Makira side that would be the only time the former national representatives would find the back of the net in this encounter.
On form striker Tony Otini levelled for Real Kakamora ahead of half-time before a Paul Hiri strike in the 62nd minute sealed the win for his side. The win takes Real Kakamora to third place, unseating KOSSA who slip to fourth as their winless streak extends to three matches.
Hana also earned three points at the weekend but it wasn’t enough to take them beyond fifth place. Their meeting against Marist ended 1-0 with Guinean Abdouramane Kaba scoring the winner.
Western United ensured they remained on top of the title race but they were made to work hard for their victory against Malaita Kingz. Despite their arsenal of players they could only manage a 2-1 win after being held to a draw for most of the game.
James Naka set Western United on the way after just three minutes but his effort was cancelled by a superb strike from Benjamin Kiko towards the end of the first half. Western United desperately searched for the winner and had a Benjamin Totori penalty to thank for seeing them home.
