The 25-year-old Erceg, who has 116 New Zealand caps to her name, was sent to the Flash along with Adriana Leon and a first round draft pick in exchange for US Women’s National Team defender Whitney Engen and a fourth round pick.
Erceg started 23 matches since joining the Red Stars in the 2014 season and Flash General Manager Rich Randall said the New Zealand captain and Leon are set to help build a side which can challenge for the title.
“We are excited for the additions of Abby Erceg and Adriana Leon,” said Randall.
“We strongly believe they will make immediate impacts for us as we look to build a championship team in 2016.”
