The three-day course, which opened on Friday at the Fiji FA headquarters in Vatuwaqa, focuses on key elements of match officiating through technical sessions, practical sessions and testing.
The course is aimed at assisting referee education at the Member Association level, and Hester believes it is the ideal opportunity to learn from fellow referees and to challenge personal limits around physical preparation and knowledge of the FIFA Laws of the Game.
“I want to be exhausted when I leave here from all of the questions, presentations and participation,” Hester says.
“Participation is the key and this is the environment to make mistakes in, this is the environment to really push yourself as a match official right beyond the limit.”
Fiji Football Association CEO Bob Kumar says hosting the course every year is vital to ensuring Fiji continues to produce match officials who can go on to be involved in tournaments around the Oceania region.
“We know match officials play a very important role in any tournament or match, and these local officials are here for the purpose of upgrading their skills and knowledge to achieve better performances on the field,” Kumar says.
“We have this course every year so that referees can continue to improve, so I hope they make the best of the time here and leave feeling like they have achieved something.”
