The shield pits clubs from the Premier and the First Divisions against each other, with Amicale and Ambassador’s match on Saturday marking the first ever encounter between sides from the two different divisions organised by the Port Vila Football Association.
Amicale’s new signings Samuel Kautonga and Laita Tuilau of Fiji and Alick Maemae of the Solomon Islands were in the starting line up along with club mainstay Fenedy Masauvakalo, whose double helped his side to their comfortable win.
Ambassador’s young striker Andrew Baha scored his side’s only goal.
Tupuji Imere beat Yatel 2-0 in the other Pool A match, while in Pool B Erakor Golden Star came from behind to beat Siwi 2-1.
The second Pool B match will take place on Thursday between Spirit 08 and Lopatu, with the first Pool C and D matches still to come.
