Australian/Samoan footballer Tim Cahill put in a star turn as Everton overcame Stoke City in the FA Premiership at the weekend. Cahill scored the winning goal for Everton after he flicked on a Mikel Arteta corner with just fives minutes remaining.
Everton had led the match 2-0 until a storming comeback from Stoke City saw the match levelled at 2-2. Cahill was on target with the late winner after spending most of 2008 on the sidelines with a broken foot. The 28 year-old midfielder also missed Australia’s midweek 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™Asian Qualifier against Uzbekistan.
Cahill has been a keen supporter of Samoan and Oceanian football since he visited New Zealand in May last year to conduct the draw for the XIII South Pacific Games – Samoa 2007/OFC Nations Cup 2008/2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Oceanian Qualifiers in Auckland.
The midfielder scored ten goals for Everton in the FA Premiership last season and helped guide the club into the UEFA Cup.
Tim’s brother – Chris – is the captain of the Samoa national team and currently plays his football for Saint George United in the New South Wales winter league competition.
