Hekari Souths United have signed two more Solomon Islanders as part of their preparations for the O-League championship later this year.

National beach soccer team goalkeeper Fred Hale and Marist defender Arnold Keni are the latest recruits.

This brings the number of Solomon Islanders with United to eight including coach Jerry Allan.

Jack Samani and Abraham Iniga were initially part of United (formerly PRK Souths) when the National Soccer League (NSL) first started in 2006.

Both helped United win their inaugural grand final against Gelle Hills.

Later, names like Jacob Pekau (until injured), Brian Feni, Benjamin Mela and Joachim Waroi were added onto the list.

Hale has been slotted into the team because of his experiences in the keeper role replacing Godfrey Baniau, while Keni replaces another countryman Pekau, who was seriously injured.

Marist coach Patrick Miniti confirmed that United had asked for the services of those two players as they stood out during the two friendly matches in Solomon Islands last weekend.

Miniti said if overseas clubs were interested in his players, there was no reason to keep them behind.

United owner John Kapi-Natto said the inclusion of the players were in preparation for the O-League in November.

They will travel to Solomon Islands for the first home and away game.

United’s overseas-based players Kema Jack and David Muta would join them later when the Queensland State League is over.
