Referee Bertrand Billion and General Coordinator Matuanui Ariiotima deemed the waterlogged pitch at Stade Paea was unplayable after close inspection throughout the day and immediatley prior to kick-off.
Match officials and representatives of both AS Manu Ura and Waitakere United inspected the pitch at 11:00am and again at 5:00pm and were present at the venue when the call was made.
“We have been in constant contact with the Federation Tahitienne de Football during this process, and it is unfortunate, but player safety is important and we are guided by the decisions of the referee. By all accounts he was very hopeful of the match being played but once heavy rain came again close to kick-off it was obvious there was going to be no let up”
OFC will investigate rescheduling the match at a later date following the postponement.
