It is a very busy time of year for the top male footballers in Oceania.
The region’s top U23 players have been involved with the recent OFC Men’s Olympic Qualifying tournament in Fiji, the O-League is in full swing with OFC’s top six teams battling it out throughout five different countries and the domestic leagues around the region are exciting fans on a weekly basis.
As often happens with demanding schedules, the true talent rises to the top, and some real stars have emerged on both the domestic and international scenes across OFC.
Solomon Island international Benjamin Totori smashed his way to the golden shoe crown in Fiji with a staggering 10 goals in four games to cap off an exceptional individual performance. Totori is also poised one goal behind Golden boot leader Graham Little in the NZFC and has been giving defenders nightmares all season with his electric pace and silky skills.
Roy Krishna has emerged as the ‘pin up boy’ of Fijian soccer following some scintillating performances for Fiji and Labasa. Krishna scored three goals at the recent Olympic tournament in Fiji and was the catalyst for most of Fiji’s attacking flair. In a similar mould to Totori, Krishna has a slight figure but is very quick and plays with intelligence. The two are set to form a lethal partnership for OFC heavyweights Waitakere United when they join forces.
Auckland City captain Ben Sigmund has been the defensive rock that Auckland has built their NZFC title campaign on. Sigmund is strong, good in the air and reads the game well and his fine run of performances has attracted attention of the Wellington Phoenix who have announced their interest. Sigmund has scored four times in 16 starts for Auckland.
Other standout performers in OFC include Pierr Wajoka (AS Magente), Jose Hmae (AS Magente), Alick Maemae (Makuru), Teva Zaveroni (TAC), Naea Bennett (AS Pirae), Reginald Davani (Kossa),Allan Pearce (Waitakere United).
The question we have for you is: Who is the best player in OFC that currently plays within the Oceania region and why?
