Pago Park, the Football Federation of American Samoa (FFAS) headquarters, was opened in 2007 but was badly damaged by a natural disaster just two years later when a series of earthquakes and tsunamis devastated parts of American Samoa, Samoa and Tonga in September 2009.
FIFA has contributed US $800,000 towards the tsunami repair work and the next phases of the Goal Project, which will see the park undergo a facelift.
Vuksich and Borich field consultant Laurie Stubbing and FFAS maintenance manager Paepae Soia Su last month oversaw the construction of the barrier, which Stubbing says was built to stop soil run-off into the Pago Pago Harbour.
The barrier covers 900 feet along the water edge and is two feet high. Its construction was one of the requirements for a land use permit.
Stubbing says the clearing of the hill by the stream has been delayed slightly because a lot of rain has fallen recently but he expects the earthwork to be completed this month.
The clearing is necessary so that the playing fields can be extended towards the hill area to make room for two minimum-sized FIFA international fields.
Once the earthworks are completed, the next project is to put up a security fence around the entire complex.
