Former O-League representatives Kossa FC have continued their winning ways in the Super Eight Competition with a narrow victory over Zome Mars United 3-2 at Lawson Tama Stadium yesterday.

Kossa, who reached the O-League final against Waitakere United in 2008, had to fight hard in their second Super Eight match after a scoreless first half.

With three second-half goals from defender Samson Takayama, striker Moffat Deremoa and substitute defender Gideon Omokirio, Kossa maintained their composure to prevent a draw.

Zome Mars were boosted by former Kossa players Willie Namo playing upfront plus Cliff Omari and Jack Wasi in the midfield. They made it difficult for Kossa to score but evntually Takayama made the breakthrough from a Kossa corner.

Deremoa and Omokirio made it three for Kossa but Zome Mars regrouped and fought back with some strong attacking play.

Vezo James scored their first goal before Hiho brought them them within one goal of the former national champions. But it was too little too late and they could not muster the draw.

Despite KOSSA’s victory, Head Coach Moses Toata expressed dissatisfaction.

“We should have scored more goals if the boys had kept the momentum going,” he said.

However, with the two victories from two games so far, Toata is confident Kossa will continue a strong run in the Super 8 Championship.

Lawson Tama Stadium will be the venue for the O-League 1st Leg Final between Koloale FC and Auckland City FC on 25 April.
