Coach Wesley Waiwai says the team has been undergoing a similar training schedule to that of the senior men’s team and have been looking rather impressive in practice.
“The players are performing well in training and I am so far satisfied with their performance. We have been conducting training sessions three times a week and the players are doing well,” Waiwai says.
The Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) has invested heavily in the development of young players, preparing them for international tournaments such as the OFC U-20 Championship which will run from 21-29 March.
A number of players selected for this tournament are part of the PNGFAs development team with the rest coming from teams participating in the Telikom National Soccer League.
The squad will be without outstanding Auckland City attacker David Browne, however they will have the services of midfielder Jacob Sabua and striker Alwin Komolong who both appeared on the radar following the OFC U-17 Championship in 2011.
