Port Vila Sharks has confirmed its O-League spot after a 4-0 victory over Tafea Hornets after last weekend’s VFF Bred Cup finals.

The Shark’s tactics, skills and experience proved too much for the visiting team as they led 1-0 in the first half before adding three quick goals in the second half to secure the O-League berth.

Hornets began the match well which saw mounting pressure on the champions and had several chances but the poor finishing prevented them from finding the back of the net.

It did not take long before the Sharks finally found their pace, and the combination of Francois Sakama and Jean Nako upfront and the support of Vanuatu rising star Michel Kaltak began causing problems for Hornets defence.

Five minutes before end of the first half, Jean Nako finally broke the deadlock after receiving a well timed pass from Sakama before slotting the ball past the Hornets keeper, Jack Johnny.

The second half saw the Sharks putting on the stronger performance after defender Jeffery Gete header beat Hornets keeper following a corner kick from Captain Moise Poida.

Two other goals came from Etienne Mermer and Francois Sakama.

But one good thing about the Hornets is they have a strong mental strength which saw them fighting until the final whistle.

Despite the defeat, their achievement in the competition will be unforgettable after winning their matches against Port Vila Mauriki FC and Shefa Kings FC in a group stage before thrashing the Northern Champion, Sanma Rainbow in the semi-finals to reach the final against the Sharks.

Vanuatu’s O-League hopes now rests on the Sharks if they can do better this time. Tafea FC represented Vanuatu in the recent O-League campaign, They did well by securing second spot in qualifying round but could not make to the finals.
