Football Ferns defender Rebekah Stott – capped 42 times for her country and scorer of one of New Zealand’s two goals in the 2-2 draw with China at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in June – will play for Melbourne City in the club’s inaugural season in the league.
Stott will turn out for what is set to be a strong side with the team boasting seven Matildas as well as top international signings in Scottish international Kim Little and Wales representative Jess Fishlock.
Meanwhile, Emma Kete will line-up for defending champions Canberra United in what will be the Football Ferns striker’s fifth season in the competition having played for Perth Glory, Canberra and Sydney FC in previous editions of the league.
Kete is joined in Canberra by former Football Ferns goalkeeper Aroon Clansey – now serving as goalkeeper coach for the club.
Fresh from her club’s ASB Women’s Knockout Cup victory last month, Glenfield Rovers captain Liz Milne has moved across the ditch and will play for Adelaide United having previously played for Perth Glory in the competition.
Former New Zealand age-group representative Briar Palmer has linked with coach Dave Edmondson at the Melbourne Victory.
Palmer represented New Zealand at the U-17 and U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cups in 2012 and 2014 respectively while Edmondson was previously based in New Zealand and coached the Women’s U-17 side at the 2010 World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago.
