The five-day affair, which is being conducted by OFC Player Development Officer Daniel Shirley with assistance from VFF technical team members George Regenvanu and Etienne Mermer, is being attended by 24 participants who will implement Grassroots football in their respective villages and provinces.
The course will combine classroom learning with practical football sessions each day and will culminate in a FIFA Grassroots Festival on Friday with children aged six to 12 years participating.
Shirley says to achieve great results in the future people must start to work on kids in the villages and provinces now.
“More than anything else children play the game of football for fun,” Shirley says.
“Playing matches is also an essential facet of the learning process and helps speed that process up. It allows them to acquire skills and a sense of independence.
“It also develops their creativity, initiative and the ability to take decisions and helps them to build relationships with other people and respect them.”
As the participants have been identified by the VFF technical team as potential coaches for the soon-to-open Development Centres in Vanuatu, OFC and VFF will also be taking the opportunity to explain how the new centres will work and plan for their commencement in early January 2013.
The Development Centres are for children aged 10 to 12 years and target the most motivated and committed children and provide more regular training for them with qualified coaches.
