AUCKLAND – Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) has moved to clarify New Zealand Football’s involvement in the 2009/2010 O-League by today confirming that two Kiwi clubs will participate in the competition.

A decision on whether OFC’s flagship competition would include one or two New Zealand teams had been deferred until the next Executive Committee meeting on 30 May due to the complexity of the proposals, but the overriding need to provide certainty and sufficient warning for clubs has resulted in OFC bringing the decision forward.

The makeup of teams for the 2010-2011 competition and beyond is yet to be decided. OFC will continue a review process of the six-team structure which currently includes two New Zealand clubs as well as representatives from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

The O-League is OFC’s premiere club competition and determines who will represent Oceania at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The 2010 competition gets underway in October while the 2009 season is nearing an end with the final Group A Match between Waitakere United and Auckland City FC kicking off tomorrow at Douglas Field to decide who will meet Koloale FC in the home and away final.
