Taku Niebo the PNGFA Technical Director, and Frederica Sakette, Head of Women’s Football, through PNGFA are in the process of identifying suitable people to come on board to assist with different programs leading to 2015 Pacific Games.
Niebo said there were number of courses that have been planned this year with the Community course in April followed by Goal-Keeping course, Grassroots course and C-License course later in the year. As per the calendar, the following are dates of the FIFA PNGFA courses.
April 28th – 2nd May will be Community Course focusing on Women’s Football, May 26th – 30th will be Goalkeeping and Admin Course, June 16th – 20th, Grassroots Coaching Course and September 8th – 12 is the C-License (Senior) Coaching Course.
“Basically these courses is to enhance and gain support from football people in corporate and government bodies to come on board and assist in developing football in the country,” Niebo said.
At the local level, local instructors will be conducting D-License courses for each of the regions in Southern, Highlands, New Guinea Islands and Momase
It’s been a challenging year for us last year to go to member associations but it is now the department mandate this year to go out and assist coaches, referees and players to develop and improve the standard of football in their respective MA’s,” said Niebo.
The onus is now on each member associations to help assist those courses for the Technical Department, and local instructors to run D-license course.
Niebo said PNGFA had improve greatly in terms of programs with assistant from Oceania Football Confederation (OFC),we were able to roll-out programs such as “Just Play” which have covered most of the provinces and have identified talented players that motivated to continue on with the pathway in their football career.
“Now the Technical Department wants to see more work given to coaches who have gone through attending PNGFA courses to given the task to coach a team in their respective associations,” says Niebo.
