Waitakere will aim to break clear in the NZFC minor premiership race while Auckland City’s attention is temporarily diverted toward the O-League showdown with AS Manu Ura in Tahiti.
Waitakere and Auckland City currently share top spot in the competition with 23 points but a win for Waitakere this weekend would hand them top spot outright and leave Auckland City with a mounting fixture list and three games in hand on their rivals.
Team Wellington have play-off concerns of their own with three defeats in a row allowing the chasing pack to close in. Wellington – in fifth place – trail fourth placed Canterbury United by just two points and a win over Waitakere United would see the home side leapfrog Canterbury and reignite their stuttering play-off aspirations.
Wellington and All Whites goalkeeper James Bannatyne is in line to win his 50th NZFC career appearance and will hope to celebrate that milestone with a much needed win. For the visitors, All Whites defender Aaron Scott could win his 75th NZFC career appearance.
The match kicks off at Newtown Park at 5.00pm and can be followed online with live text updates at www.nzfc.co.nz.
