The 25th VFF Congress was held in Luganville, Santo on 2 and 3 December and saw administrators from throughout Vanuatu put their support behind Maltock for a further four year term.
OFC President David Chung says the support for Maltock to continue his mandate as VFF President is a reflection of the excellent work he has been doing domestically.
“Lambert has displayed great dedication to raising the profile of football in Vanuatu, and improving the quality of players and coaches in order to become more competitive,” Chung says.
“Football is the most popular game in Vanuatu and the efforts which have been made to decentralise the sport has increased that popularity ten-fold.
“The growth of the game in Vanuatu is a real credit to the vision of Lambert, and those who came before him, to take football to every corner of the nation.
“I wish to congratulate him on his re-election, and the realisation of another important piece of football infrastructure for Vanuatu.”
The congress followed the successful opening of the Northern Region Technical Centre a day earlier in the presence of Director General of Youth and Sport William Nasak as well as FIFA Development Officer Glenn Turner and his deputy Shaun Easthope.
The centre, a FIFA Goal Project, is part of the decentralisation of football infrastructure and activities which Maltock helped move forward during his time as VFF President.
“Here in Luganville, Santo we now have our second football academy,” Maltock says, “I am a happy man as we have achieved the dreams of many former executive committee members including the late Tinsley Lulu.
“I would like to thank our hard-working friend Glenn Turner for his willingness to help Vanuatu Football Federation to have another football academy for the kids in the northern region. I would also like to personally thank FIFA for their financial support for this project,” he says.
“Today we have two football technical centres in Vanuatu and one of my visions is to have technical centres in all eight football associations in Vanuatu.”
Turner was quick to congratulate Maltock and the Vanuatu Football Federation for their dedication to expanding into Santo and the northern region of Vanuatu.
“It is a pleasure to attend another milestone in the development of football in Vanuatu,” Turner says.
“It is an excellent facility which will no doubt encourage more and more boys and girls to become involved in the beautiful game.”
The opening ceremony for the Northern Region Technical Centre was attended by representatives from the Provincial Government of Sanma, Luganville Municipality and the Vanuatu Government.
