FijiFOOT is a magazine-style show produced by the Fiji FA featuring football highlights and activities which will screen free-to-air on FBC TV every Friday at 7.30pm.
The launch follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Fiji FA and FBC in Suva earlier this month making FBC the FA’s official television station.
Fiji FA senior vice president Sheik Ibrahim says the show is yet another milestone achievement for the national football body.
“Two seasons ago we launched the Fiji Football News and we are now ready to host our own television show. This will be a huge boost for football in the country and I would like to thank FBC TV for making our long term plan a reality,” he says.
“The wide coverage of FBC TV itself is a bonus as we will be taking the show into every home.”
FBC chief executive Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the company believes in sports as a nation building tool.
“Any sport that FBC is involved with we try and do our best to promote as much as possible because at the end of the day sports, as you know, is a great thing,” Sayed-Khaiyum says.
“It’s good for any country as it brings people together and keeps people fit – and we want to be involved with something that is positive,” he says.
FijiFOOT was made possible through the support of OFC, whose funding helped provide the television equipment and training required to launch the show.
FijiFoot is based on the same model already used in other parts of the Pacific, such as FenuaFoot in Tahiti and VanuaFoot in Vanuatu.
