OFC and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) have marked the milestone by launching a new Facebook page for fans to keep up with all the latest news leading up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil ™ qualifier.
Fans can ‘like’ the tournament Facebook page here
The Nations Cup is set to take place at Honiara’s Lawson Tama Stadium from 1-10 June after the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) were awarded the hosting rights in March.
OFC General Secretary Tai Nicholas believes preparations are on track for the Confederation’s flagship event.
“There is lot of work to be done over the next month but the Local Organising Committee is liaising closely with OFC to ensure timelines are met across all areas,” says Nicholas.
“We are aware of the challenges but also draw confidence from the fact that SIFF regularly host matches with more than 15,000 fans in attendance so major events are not new to them.”
“The excitement is certainly building and we are pleased to launch our new Facebook page to keep everyone updated with how preparations are going.”
The tournament will include two groups of four with the national teams of New Caledonia, Samoa, Tahiti and Vanuatu competing in Group A while Group B consists of Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and hosts Solomon Islands.
Direct entry to the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 is up for grabs for the winner while the top four ranked teams will go on to contest stage three involving home-and-away matches based on a round-robin format.
The winner of the third stage will play-off against the fourth-placed team from CONCACAF – the Confederation of North America, Central America and the Caribbean – for a place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™.
