Former O-League representatives Kossa FC have been knocked out of the 2009 Our Telekom National Championships after Makuru beat Gossa 3-0 today to clinch a place in the semi final.
The win leaves Makuru second behind Uncles in Group B and more importantly four points clear of Kossa who have only one match remaining.
It is a huge blow for Kossa, who represented the Solomon Islands in the 2008 O-League where they lost to New Zealand’s Waitakere United in the two-legged final.
Fellow former O-League team Koloale have also found the going tough after their shock 0-1 defeat to Fasi Roos this week. But the 2009 representatives, with help from star player Henry Fa’arodo, have still managed to secure a semi-final spot and could finish top of their group with a win against Soloso tomorrow.
Fasi Roos could not follow up their win against Koloale finishing with a 3-3 draw against Malango today. Malango gained some respectability with the draw but still finished bottom of Group A.
Match Day 12 tomorrow will see Koloale play Soloso while Kossa will play Malu’u United.
The semi final and final will then decide who reigns supreme in Solomon Islands club football with the winner going on to compete in the 2010 O-League – Oceania Football Confederation’s premier club competition.
