Although he recently stated his commitment to getting back in the picture with the club he joined in 2012, Gope-Fenepej has since had a change of heart and will relaunch his career with the Championnat National side.
It is a big move for the 27-year-old from Lifou, who is following in the footsteps of his uncle Robert Drawilo who spent a season at Stade de la Licorne from 1991-92.
However it’s one he’s excited about.
“For me, Amiens represents a new adventure,” Gope-Fenepej says.
“I want more time in the game and I was looking for a club in National, a championship that I’m familiar with from my time with Boulogne.
“This season, at Troyes, I have played in Ligue 1 at all, only in CFA.”
In a statement released by the club following his signing, they described exactly why they were attracted to Gope-Fenepej.
“He is a very fast player who plays with precision. He is great technically, makes an impact, is a dribbler, he joined the top level late and has great potential for progress.”
Gopes-Fenepej has played 42 matches in CFA with Troyes reserve team and while on loan with US Boulogne last season, during which time he has scored 23 goals – an average of a goal every two games.
With a strike rate like that, Amiens will be keen to get the New Caledonian on the pitch as soon as possible.
