Brockie, 25, was top-scorer for the Phoenix in his debut season with the club in the A-League, putting away 16 goals in 24 appearances, which also helped him to finish runner-up in the league scoring.
Wellington Phoenix general manager David Dome said the club had been working with Toronto to bring the deal to fruition and he is pleased Brockie is getting the opportunity to taste life in another top league.
“It is a great opportunity for Jeremy as the MLS is of a good standard, and it is possible that Jeremy could come back an even better player than he now is,” Dome said.
“The break between seasons in the A-League is too long and the club has been looking for opportunities for some of the players to play football in other leagues in an effort to get greater benefit from the break.
“Michael Boxhall is currently on loan to the Oakleigh Cannons in the Victorian Premier League as part of this programme. Both clubs have also agreed to work closely together on football issues following on from this deal so it’s a great association to have.”
Toronto FC president and general manager Kevin Payne said Brockie’s inclusion comes with the endorsement of the club’s coach, former All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen.
“We’re excited to have Jeremy join us on loan. Ryan has played with him on the All Whites and speaks very highly of him,” Payne said.
“He’ll provide another option in an attacking position and if he can continue his form from the last A-League season we’ll be happy indeed.”
Brockie began his career with Nelson Suburbs before joining Canterbury United in the ASB Premiership before signing with the New Zealand Knights ahead of their debut season in the A-League.
He went on to sign with Sydney FC in March 2006 and left a year later to join Hawke’s Bay United back in New Zealand’s ASB Premiership. In 2009 he joined A-League club North Queensland Fury for one season before joining the Newcastle Jets ahead of the 2010 season.
After two seasons with the Jets he signed for New Zealand-based A-League side Wellingotn Phoenix.
He has earned 35 international caps with the All Whites after making his debut against Malaysia in 2006. He was part of the 2008 Olympic squad, as well as the 2009 Confederations Cup and 2010 FIFA World Cup teams.
