Dutch import Paul Beekmans has been chosen as the other vice-captain and the pair will offer support to skipper Michael Thwaite in the new season, which kicks off with a home fixture against Wellington Phoenix, one of Moss’ former clubs, on Sunday.
Bleiberg says there were several strong candidates for the vice-captaincy but Moss and Beekmans got the nod as they have stood out in their leadership during the pre-season campaign.
“I like to have a leadership group,” he says.
“I selected these players for their status in the squad and their ability both on and off the field. They all have good personalities and are winners.
“To be captain or vice-captain of any football team is an honour and I know they will live up to the responsibility.”
Younger players Jerrad Tyson and James Brown have also been appointed to the leadership group and Moss is in favour of their involvement.
”I think it’s a good idea to have some younger players in the leadership group – it’s a good pathway for them,” he says.
”I remember as a young player myself I was sometimes nervous about approaching the coach with certain things, so for our youngsters to have that outlet is great for them and encourages everyone to have a voice.”
