LAUTOKA – Match Day two at the OFC Men’s Olympic Football tournament in Lautoka will see Solomon Islands take on Cook Islands, Fiji face Papua New Guinea and New Zealand play Vanuatu in an action-packed programme.

There are no injury concerns for Solomon Islands with the dangerous Benjamin Totori likely to ask probing questions of a well-organised Cook Islands team crafted by its popular coach Tim Jerks.

Totori bagged a hat-trick against Papua New Guinea with Joachim Rande and Joses Nawo exposing George Cowie’s inexperienced team using blistering pace and deadly finishing.

Totori may find Cook Islands a tougher nut to crack while the team from Rarotonga will be looking for inspiration from midfielders Thomas Le Mouton and Tuka Tisam – two outstanding performers on Match Day 1.

Goalkeeper Remi Wearing – another busy Cook Islands player on Match Day 1 – is likely to face another busy afternoon of glove work as Solomon Islands seek to press its claims for OFC’s sole qualifying berth for the Beijing Olympics 2008.

Fiji coach Carlos Buzzetti will be determined to see his team bounce back from its heartbreaking last minute defeat against New Zealand.

Standing in Fiji’s way will be a Papua New Guinea team desperate to cause an upset for its many fans back home.

Mathias Apo scored a great goal for Papua New Guinea but their coach George Cowie will be hoping his brave team can keep out the threat posed by Osea Vakatalesau and Roy Krishna. Krishna was in electric form against New Zealand but failed to hit the back of the net after a personal duel with the dynamic Kiwi goalkeeper Jacob Spoonley.

Anything less than a victory for Fiji would make qualification for the Beijing Olympics an almost mission impossible for the host nation.

Match of the day pits Air Vanuatu Warriors against Stu Jacobs New Zealand team with both sides knowing three points will light up the Road to Beijing. Cole Peverley was New Zealand’s star man on Match Day 1 turning in an accomplished midfield performance. Steven Old hit back at critics with a last gasp winner that ensured his team finished Match Day 1 amongst the leaders.

For Air Vanuatu Warriors Francois Sakama was instrumental in his team’s 4-0 win over Cook Islands. Jeffry Nimanian’s brace and Joseph Namariau’s second half strike sent out a warning to opponents that Philemon John’s side will pose a serious threat to their Olympic Games dream.
