Vodafone Ba triumphed over Nadi New Zealand 6-1 in an exhibition match at Govind Park on Tuesday night.
Ba walked away with $1000 prize money and a trophy to commemorate the first annual match between the Fiji Inter District Competition Winner (Ba) and the NZ Fiji Soccer Inc. champion (Nadi).
Maviliko Nakama got the ball rolling for Ba with a brace of goals – reminiscent of his father Jo Basudra – who was a fan favourite at the club.
Nakama, 17, who made his debut for the Men in Black, was one of the standout performers in the Ba squad.
While his father was a defender, the new find is a striker tipped by Ba officials to be their new sensation.
Another former rep Julie Sami also had reason to smile as his 18 year old son Dennis Rao also featured for the hosts.
"These are the players for the future which Ba produces," said Ba president Rishi Kumar.
"Maviliko will be a future star and with the guidance from the coaches and senior players, he will go a long way."
Adding to Maviliko two goals was veteran striker Josaia Bukalidi who scored a classy hat-trick while Alvin Singh added the sixth. Shalvin Prasad got the lone goal for the visitors.
Former Lautoka goalkeeper Nicholas Lawrence made his debut for Ba after replacing Jone Sorolo.
"This match also gave us a chance to relook at our team players, combinations and what weakness we had after the loss to Labasa in the CVC," Kumar said.
Nadi NZ which included a host of foreigners were no match for Ba.
"Nadi NZ had a lot of players from other countries but we managed to hold our own," added Kumar
The match was been sanctioned by the Fiji Football Association and NZ Fiji Soccer Inc and will now become an annual affair.
Ba have decided not to release any of its players for the various religious tournaments which will be played this weekend.
Kumar said with the O League and other major commitments coming up for the side, they didn’t want to risk the players.
